War crimes in Ukraine indicate Russia's coordinated policy - UN Commission
Russian war crimes against Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war are evidence of a coordinated and sanctioned policy by the Russian authorities
Natalia Mudrenko, an adviser to the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations informs, Ukrinform reports.
“The commission's latest report once again unequivocally confirms that Russian troops are committing heinous war crimes, including premeditated killings, brutal torture, sexual and gender-based violence, and inhumane treatment of prisoners in Russian captivity,” the advisor said.
According to Mudrenko, the report shows that the widespread use of torture by Russian authorities against Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war indicates a coordinated, government-sanctioned policy.
Additionally, the report contains findings that expose Russia's so-called denazification policy towards Ukraine: "This policy is coldly outlined in brochures distributed to Russian soldiers before or during their deployment in Ukraine, with the message: 'Once denazification is complete, they will become Russians again, but for now, they are enemies.'"
- In the first six months of 2024, Russian garrison military courts sentenced 6,088 military personnel in criminal cases. This is a record since at least 2011.
