Ukraine appeals to international bodies over alleged Russian war crime: execution of Ukrainian POW by sword
Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, will appeal to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) over the alleged execution by the sword of a Ukrainian prisoner of war
He wrote about this on Telegram.
“Such actions are a gross violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War! How much longer will the world watch Russia openly demonstrate disregard for any norms and laws?” the ombudsman wrote.
Lubinets sent letters to international organizations, the ICRC and the UN, to record another human rights violation by Russia. He also stressed that such demonstrative executions are aimed at demoralizing Ukrainian society.
Earlier, information surfaced online regarding the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by sword. A photo shows the lifeless body of an unarmed man in the uniform of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The sword, likely used to kill him, bears the inscription "For Kursk."
Those who circulated these photos claim that it happened in Novohrodivka.
