This is reported by Reuters.
"Russia views its vast Arctic territory as a vital strategic interest and has been building up its military capabilities in the region for years, raising alarm bells in the West," the article says.
It is noted that the exercises, named "Umka-2022", took place in the Chukchi Sea, the eastern part of the Arctic Ocean, which separates the Russian Federation from the American state of Alaska.
The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that two nuclear-powered submarines, the Omsk and Novosibirsk, had fired anti-ship cruise missiles from the Chukchi Sea, striking targets 400 kilometers (250 miles) away.
