Russian military violence against civilians documented in Kyiv region - UN High Representative for Human Rights
UN High Representative for Human Rights Michel Bachelet says cases of beatings, executions and forced deportations of Ukrainian men to camps have been documented.
Michelle Bachelet said this during a meeting of the UN Security Council on May 5, dedicated to maintaining peace and security in Ukraine.
She said that her office had documented dozens of cases of Russian troops violence against civilians in the Kyiv region. The cases include beatings, detentions and executions; some men were taken to prison camps in Russia and Belarus.
"My staff has met with families looking for their missing male relatives, desperately trying to find out where they are, whether they are alive and how they can bring them back," Ms. Bachelet said at a UN Security Council meeting.
Ms. Bachelet shared another 180 cases of enforced disappearances of local officials, journalists, activists, civilians and retired servicemen, and 8 cases of disappearances of pro-Russian individuals.
On May 5, the UN Security Council discussed the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
