Russian government officials visit Iran, inspect combat drones - White House
The White House claims that Russian government officials visited an airfield in central Iran where they inspected combat drones with the intention of purchasing them for use in the war against Ukraine.
AP shared the news.
"We assess an official Russian delegation recently received a showcase of Iranian attack-capable UAVs," White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said.
According to him, Russia is interested in acquiring Iranian UAVs capable of attacking.
According to the White House, Iran demonstrated the drones to the Russians at Kashan Airfield on June 8 and July 15. The administration also released satellite images of the Shahed-191 and Shahed-129 drones on display and flying at the airfield, while the Russian delegation's transport plane is on the ground.
According to Jake Sullivan, the administration has "information that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with several hundred UAVs."
The US believes that the June visit "was the first time a Russian delegation has visited this airfield for such a showcase."
Biden seeks to strengthen coordination among Middle Eastern allies in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Many countries in the Persian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, are seriously concerned about Iran's malicious activities in the region.
However, none of the countries represented at the summit have followed the US on sanctions against Russia, a key foreign policy priority of the Biden administration.
