Russian forces try to use road through Armyansk, but it is too close to Ukrainian positions – OC South
Head of the Joint Coordination Press Centre of the Southern Defence Forces of Ukraine, Captain 1st Rank Natalia Humeniuk, noted that after the Chongar Bridge was blown up, the Russian enemy is trying to use an alternative route through Armyansk
She said this on the air of the Espreso TV channel.
"The Russian forces see and understand that the attempts to repair the Chongar Bridge are futile. The bridge is so damaged that it cannot withstand the load of military equipment and ammunition. The Russian forces are trying to set up pontoon crossings, but if we have reached the bridge, what's to stop us from reaching the pontoon crossings? They continue to do this in anticipation of the next hits. We will try to make sure they don't wait too long," emphasised Humeniuk.
According to the 1st Rank Captain, after the Chongar Bridge was blown up, the Russian enemy is trying to use an alternative route through Armyansk.
"But it is too close to the positions of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, and this makes the enemy nervous. They do not feel safe using this logistics and transport route," noted Humeniuk.
Explosion at the Chongar Bridge
On the night of June 22, the Russian forces reported an explosion at the Chongar Bridge near the temporarily occupied Crimea.
According to the collaborationist Volodymyr Saldo from Kherson, the strike was allegedly carried out by a British Storm Shadow missile. The road surface on the bridges was damaged, but there were no casualties. Later, he threatened strikes on bridges in the Odesa region.
The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces stated that it was deliberate work by Defense Forces and partisans. The Russian occupiers made a pontoon crossing immediately after the attack on the Chongar Bridge, which connects the temporarily occupied Crimea with Ukraine.
The UK Ministry of Defence noted that the strikes on the bridges near Chongar at the entrance to Crimea have significantly complicated logistics for the Russian occupying forces in Zaporizhzhia region. This is evidenced by their rapid pace of building a pontoon ferry.
