British intelligence explains why Chongar Bridge was vital for Russia
Strikes on the bridges near Chongar at the entrance to Crimea significantly complicated logistics for the Russian invaders in the Zaporizhzhia region. This is evidenced by their rapid pace of constructing a pontoon crossing

British intelligence reminded that on the morning of June 22, the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the bridges across Chongar, which connect the Crimean peninsula with the occupied territory of Kherson region.
“These bridges service one of two main road supply routes between Crimea and Kherson. The route over the Chonhar bridges are the most direct route from Russia's Crimean logistics hub at Dzhankoi and the Zaporizhzhia sector, where Russia is currently defending against a major Ukrainian offensive. The temporary closure of the route caused vital Russian logistics convoys to take at least 50% longer to reach the front via alternative routes”, the message reads.
The UK’s MoD notes that the temporary closure of the route has led to a situation where crucial Russian logistical convoys had to spend at least 50% more time delivering support to the occupying forces on the front through alternative routes.
Reports also indicate that the Russian authorities likely constructed a replacement pontoon bridge within 24 hours following the attack. However, it is highly probable that these crossings are exclusively used by Russian military forces.
The speed at which the alternative passage was built underscores its vital importance to Russian military efforts in occupied Ukraine.
Explosion at the Chongar Bridge
During the night of June 22, the Russian occupiers reported an explosion at the Chongar Bridge near the temporarily occupied Crimea.
According to the collaborationist Volodymyr Saldo from Kherson, the strike was allegedly carried out by an English missile called Storm Shadow. The road surface on the bridges was damaged, but there were no casualties. Later, he threatened strikes on bridges in the Odesa region.
The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces stated that it was deliberate work by Defense Forces and partisans. The Russian occupiers erected a pontoon crossing immediately after the attack on the Chongar Bridge, which connects the temporarily occupied Crimea with Ukraine.
