What objects Russia targeted during latest Kyiv missile strike: expert reveals
Serhiy Zgurets, military expert and Defense Express CEO, states that the missile strikes targeted key facilities near Kyiv, including airports and potentially energy infrastructure
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“At night, there was an attack on Kyiv using drones and cruise missiles, which ended at three o'clock with the threat of ballistic missiles and the operation of Ukrainian air defense in the capital. During the second wave of the morning attack, the Russian aggressor used Kh-69 cruise missiles, which are among the most advanced in the arsenal of the Russian military, launched from a Su-57 fighter jet,” noted Zgurets.
According to the military expert, the Kh-69 missile is capable of flying at very low altitudes (as low as 20 meters), making it difficult to detect and destroy. However, despite the challenge, all missiles of this type have been shot down by Ukrainian air defense.
“The strikes were probably aimed at airfields near the capital. In addition, there is a possibility that the Russian aggressors tried to hit the energy infrastructure, but this is usually done with massive missile attacks. Therefore, these targeted strikes may be related to solving local problems, in particular, regarding Ukrainian defense capabilities,” Zgurets suggested.
- On the afternoon of December 30, the occupying Russian army launched attack drones on Ukrainian territory. During the night, the UAV assault continued, with Russia also launching missiles.
