UN General Assembly adopts resolution on security of Ukraine's nuclear facilities
The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution Safety and Security of Nuclear Facilities of Ukraine, including Zaporizhzhia NPP, initiated by Ukraine

99 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 9 voted against, and 60 abstained.
Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Serhiy Kyslytsia recalled that in its resolution of February 23, 2023, the General Assembly, in particular, called on Member States to cooperate in a spirit of solidarity to overcome the global consequences of war on nuclear safety.
Also, according to the Permanent Representative, the General Conference and the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a number of resolutions expressing concern about the unstable nuclear safety situation at ZNPP, calling on Russia to withdraw military and unauthorized personnel from the plant, and demanding its immediate return to Ukrainian control.
In order to confirm and develop the General Assembly's position on nuclear threats related to the Russian war, Ukraine initiated the adoption of a resolution.
The document supports the IAEA's mandate to address risks to nuclear safety and security during armed conflict and recognizes the importance of the agency's principles to help ensure the protection of the ZNPP. In addition, the text welcomes and encourages the efforts of the IAEA Director General.
