Ukraine has right to strike at air bases where Russian bombers take off - Polish FM Sikorski
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski says that Ukraine has the right to strike at Russian air bases where fighter-bombers are kept
He said this in an interview with Le Monde.
Sikorski said that Kyiv has the right to target Russian bombers that launch missiles at Ukrainian territory. He also said that Ukraine can strike Russian air bases from which Russian bombers take off.
The Polish Foreign Minister emphasized that Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine was condemned by the majority of the UN General Assembly, and Kyiv, as a victim of aggression, has the right to defend itself, including on Russian territory.
"I understand the arguments of those who need to control the temperature of this conflict. But what worries me is that we are constantly asked about Putin's 'red lines' but never about our own. Poland is the only country in the European Union that borders both Russia and Ukraine, and we have a fairly obvious 'red line', which is to prevent our citizens from being killed by Russian missiles or drones that have entered our airspace," he said.
At the same time, Sikorski shared his opinion on Russian missiles and drones crossing the Polish border.
"According to our constitution, the first duty of the Polish army is to protect our borders, which also applies to our airspace. When a missile is approaching our airspace, my personal opinion is that we have the right to self-defense. These missiles have absolutely no place here," the minister emphasized.
- On September 7, Radosław Sikorski said that his country has the right to shoot down Russian air targets over Ukraine that threaten Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
