UK intelligence assesses consequences of Cyclone attack in Sevastopol for Russia
On the night of May 19, the Russian Cyclone missile ship was probably sunk as a result of a Ukrainian strike on the port of the temporarily occupied Sevastopol
This is reported by the UK Defense Ministry.
Intelligence is almost certainly confident that the Russian missile carrier was hit: "The attack, which highly likely included a combination of one-way attack drones and Army Tactical missile system (ATACM) missiles almost certainly resulted in the sinking of the KARAKURT-Class corvette.”
The vessel is one of four Russian Karakurt project ships armed with Kalibr cruise missiles. Two of these vessels were likely moved to the Caspian Sea to safely complete sea trials after a series of successful Ukrainian attacks. The fourth vessel was previously severely damaged in a Ukrainian strike in November 2023.
“Although this is unlikely to significantly change the impact the Russian Navy is having on Ukrainian operations, it does highlight continued danger to Russian forces operating in the Crimea and Black Sea region and continued Ukrainian success when conducting coordinated strikes.”
