Russia’s political and economic bankruptcy will begin next year - historian Zinchenko
Oleksandr Zinchenko, a historian, publicist, and co-founder of the Historical Truth project, believes that in early 2026 there will be opportunities to end Russia's war on Ukraine on fair terms
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
‘It was Putin who made the greatest efforts to make Russia collapse. The number of mistakes he has made will eventually destroy the Russian Federation. Back in 2014, when the Russian aggression began, I predicted that some processes would be similar to those before 1991, and some would be different. My logic was that the Russian economy is closer to a free market economy than what we had in the USSR. If we analyse the macroeconomic indicators of the Russian Federation today, we see that they have the same problem as the USSR, for example, with the processes of covering the budget deficit,’ the historian said.
According to him, militarisation is increasing in Russia, there are two times fewer petrodollars than there were 10 years ago, and agriculture is becoming inefficient because it is not being supplied but imported.
‘I did not even expect how similar the processes in the Russian macroeconomy would be to the USSR. And this is only one part. There will also be changes in public sentiment caused by economic changes. In principle, the situation is predictable in the sense that if the Russian Empire or the Russian Federation starts playing a ‘small victorious’ war, it quickly turns out that the war is not so ‘small’ and not so ‘victorious’, and a revolution begins.
This happened after the Japanese war in the early 20th century, and it happened to the USSR after the Afghan war. Next year, we need to explain to the Russians somehow why ‘Kyiv in three days’ has been going on for three years. And next year we will see the beginning of both the political and economic bankruptcy of the Russian Federation. Somewhere in early 2026, there will most likely be opportunities to end this war on fair terms,’ Alexander Zinchenko summed up.
