Russian forces seek stronghold in captured territories with massive infantry presence: military on Avdiivka situation
The situation near Avdiivka remains highly challenging, with continuous Russian offensive actions, as reported by Maxim Zhorin, Deputy Commander of the Third Assault Brigade

Zhorin highlighted that the primary focus of Russian forces is the Berdychi-Orlivka settlement line, with additional activity observed in the Krasnohorivka region.
"The enemy aims to solidify its presence in the captured territories using a substantial infantry force. Contrary to a purely defensive stance, our Third Assault Brigade and other units are actively implementing counterattack measures," noted Zhorin.
- Reports on February 26 indicate that occupiers are intensifying their offensive near Avdiivka through assault actions.
- On the same day, it was confirmed that Ukrainian Armed Forces withdrew from Lastochkyne village, located 6 km from the temporarily occupied Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. They are reinforcing defense lines to impede enemy advancement.
- Furthermore, on February 26, intelligence suggested that the enemy, capitalizing on its manpower and equipment advantage, is exploiting a window of opportunity to launch attacks in multiple directions.
