Russia systematically targets Kherson civilians with drones - journalist
Yevheniia Virlych, an editor-in-chief of the Kherson-based publication Kavun.City, has reported a sharp rise in incidents where Russian forces are persistently attacking civilians in Ukraine's Kherson
She spoke about this on Espreso TV.
“We have been discussing this for a long time, and Kherson residents are also noticing it. Indeed, the Russians have been systematically targeting civilians in Kherson for a long time. The Russian troops constantly intimidate Kherson residents and drop explosives from drones on civilian areas in the city. Even if you read the official reports about the shelling of Kherson, there is information about civilian casualties almost every hour. We continually see news about the occupying army dropping explosives from drones in the city, injuring civilians,” Virlych said.
According to the journalist, volunteers, along with the administration, are trying to counter Russian drones using electronic warfare systems.
“There has been a significant increase in such reports from our official government representatives. We are talking about systematic intimidation and attacks on the civilian population. It is true that the Russian forces are cynically and deliberately targeting civilians in Kherson. These attacks could be mitigated with electronic warfare systems. However, there is a problem: the electronic warfare system does not distinguish between our drones and Russian drones. This issue is being addressed. We have consulted with the administration, and they are doing their best to assist the military with the electronic warfare systems,” she added.
- On September 8, Russian forces used a drone to attack a minibus in Kherson, injuring six people - three men and three women.
