Putin shapes Ukraine's allies by having drones cross borders - Ukraine general
Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko, founder of the Safe Skies Over Ukraine charity foundation, noted that NATO countries should begin building a joint defense against Russian drones starting from Ukrainian territory
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Putin not only impacts Ukraine by launching drones but also pressures NATO countries, such as our neighbors Romania and Poland, justifying that these are technical means, so it can happen. He is also shaping his Belarusian counterpart, as Russian drones are also entering Belarusian territory. I remind you, earlier Romania, Moldova, and Poland didn’t notice drones entering their airspace because the Americans put dark glasses on their eyes to prevent escalation. Now, times are changing, and the Poles and Romanians are presenting facts of airspace violations in their countries, saying that the sky needs to be closed off from hostile aerial threats," the general commented.
According to him, progress on an Eastern Europe joint defense for NATO countries is moving slowly. However, the best starting point is from Ukrainian territory, working together with existing air and missile defense systems. The issue here lies in the political decision.
"From a military-technical perspective, under the influence of our electronic warfare (EW) and intelligence systems, we are disrupting Russian drones, causing them to lose orientation and veer off course. This is why Russian drones sometimes end up anywhere, even entering the territory of Ukraine's neighboring countries for technical reasons. This technical effect is due to our systems' impact on Russia’s drones. This shows that we need to strengthen our electronic warfare capabilities and air defense and missile defense systems. Putin, on one hand, is 'educating' our allies, while we, on the other, demonstrate that it’s better to form Europe’s eastern air defense border with us, starting from Ukrainian territory," Ihor Romanenko concluded.
- On November 10, following a Russian drone attack on Ukraine, a drone was found in Moldova's Căușeni district. Later, another drone was discovered in the Rîșcani district.
- On November 11, the press service of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence reported that in October, Russia deployed nearly 1,000 decoy drones intended to overload Ukrainian air defenses. Two of these drones fell on Moldovan territory.
