Netherlands unable to deliver promised additional Patriot system to Ukraine: journalists give reasons
The Netherlands was forced to abandon plans to provide Ukraine with an additional Patriot system, as one of its allies refused to participate in the supply
NLTimes reports.
The Dutch Defense Ministry first announced its intention to supply Ukraine with the Patriot system at the end of May this year. At the time, it was reported that the Netherlands had the main components ready, and that the rest was to be supplied by other countries.
A month later, the Netherlands announced that it had found another country to cooperate in this case, without naming it.
"The necessary components for the complete Patriot system have now been assembled. The Netherlands is providing three launchers and a radar, while the rest of the necessary core components are being supplied by an ally," said then-Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren
However, as NLTimes journalists found out this week, the non-Dutch components are still not ready.
Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the Netherlands had recently shipped the radar and that three launchers would be delivered soon. However, other countries are still looking for other components to complete the system. Brekelmans added that negotiations with several partners are ongoing.
According to a spokesperson for the Dutch Defense Ministry, the ministry has recently been informed that the previously mentioned commitment of one of its allies is not being fulfilled. The ministry did not specify which country was involved.
- As previously stated by Brekelmans, the Netherlands has recently handed over a radar for Patriot to Ukraine and will send three launchers in the near future.
