JSOW bomb can transform into long-range missile: Defence Express on new U.S. aid package
Valerii Riabykh, a military expert and development director of the media and consulting company Defence Express, has noted that the JSOW munition can be effectively used against targets deep within Russian territory
He said this on Espreso TV.
Valerii Riabykh explained that the transfer of the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) has been announced for the first time. This planning bomb is designed to strike land and sea targets from long distances, with a range of up to 130 kilometers when launched from high altitudes. It can be guided using various systems, including inertial guidance combined with satellites and infrared systems, and weighs around 450 kilograms.
Riabykh noted that these bombs can be modified, and the U.S. has considered adding an extra engine, potentially extending their range beyond 500 kilometers. He also mentioned that the JSOW does not use the DSMAC system, which Russia has claimed could trigger certain red lines if the U.S. shares data. Without this data, the bomb could quickly be adapted into a long-range missile, allowing for rapid production.
Riabykh emphasized that the JSOW could be effectively deployed against targets deep within Russia.
