Russia to raise Kerch Strait tankers by summer 2025
Russian authorities have ordered to raise the Volgoneft tankers sunk in the Kerch Strait by June 16, 2025

The tankers Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft-239 are to be raised from the bottom of the Kerch Strait, as revealed during a meeting of the Russian governmental commission.
It is noted that the owners plan to complete the work to lift the sunken ships in the Kerch Strait by June 16, 2025.
According to the directive, the shipowners must prepare the necessary documentation by February 16, begin raising the vessels by March 16, and complete all measures by June 16, 2025, as stated in one of the reports at the meeting.
- On December 15, two Russian tankers, Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft-239, carrying fuel oil, split in half in the Kerch Strait.
- After the accident, several dead dolphins were washed ashore. Videos of polluted beaches are circulating online.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is doing nothing to prevent the disaster in the Kerch Strait.
