Japanese equipment for recycling of demolition waste is on its way to Ukraine
Ukraine is planning to recycle demolition waste and use it for reconstruction. The equipment necessary for this will soon be in operation in the Kherson region
This was announced by Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
"The frontline Kherson region is one of the areas that suffer the most from shelling. As of today, more than 2,000 tonnes of demolition waste have been taken to a separate landfill site. In the near future, the equipment that Ukraine is to receive as part of the support of JICA - Japan International Cooperation Agency - will be used here," he wrote.
According to him, the Japanese equipment will start working in Kherson region after appropriate professional training of employees.
"Demolition waste will be crushed into fractions and processed. There is a lot of discussion around the pricing issue, but today there is a consensus that the product of processing demolition waste will be available to buyers at a price lower than crushed stone," the minister said.
He emphasized that recycled demolition waste can be reused, it is a fairly environmentally friendly material that has a chance to find its niche.
"This is a really powerful and cost-effective response to the challenges of our time, which is also in line with the new philosophy of waste management," explained Strilets.
In addition to Kherson, the project currently covers Kyiv, Donetsk, and Kharkiv regions.
- In February, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced that Ukraine plans to use waste from destruction for reconstruction, which is one of the principles of the circular economy.
- In July, it was reported that the burnt forest in Donetsk region was to be used for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' fortifications.
