Russia targets Victory Park in Zaporizhzhia ahead of Victory Day
Alisa Sysoieva, a deputy of the Zaporizhzhia District Council, explained that the consequences of the Russian attack could have been much worse, given the hits to the Victory Park, an animal shelter and critical infrastructure
The official spoke about this on Espreso TV.
"If the enemy had struck a little later, today the bombardment started around 04:35, I think the consequences would have been more catastrophic. In addition to hitting infrastructure facilities, as reported by the military administration, they also hit civilian infrastructure facilities, including a cultural centre and even a park. You know, ironically, this park is called Victory Park, and there is a huge crater there now. While they are going on their frenzy in the swamps (in Russia - ed.), we could have people who would have been walking in that park right here," said the deputy of the Zaporizhzhia District Council.
Sysoieva said that an animal shelter also came under fire from the Russian occupiers, and dogs were injured.
"The main thing is that people survived, no casualties have been reported, so today during the day we were eliminating these consequences, in particular, condominiums were replacing broken windows, working with people, there were also hits to a garage complex, cars burned down. In total, about 8 explosions were heard, and there were also reports of a ballistic threat during the day. That's why we had such a challenging day today," the MP concluded.
- The Russian army attacked electricity generation and transmission facilities in 6 regions of Ukraine on the night of May 8. Power engineers are working to eliminate the consequences.
