Russian attacks target energy facilities in 6 Ukrainian regions overnight
Overnight on May 8, the Russian military launched attacks on electricity generation and transmission facilities in six regions of Ukraine. Energy experts are already addressing the aftermath
Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Halushchenko, made this announcement.
The enemy targeted electricity generation and transmission facilities in Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia regions.
Energy experts are currently assessing the damage and taking steps to mitigate it.
"The enemy aims to disrupt our electricity production and transmission. Each of us contributes to victory through responsible electricity usage. It's crucial to conserve energy, especially during morning and evening hours," added the minister.
Subsequently, "Ukrenergo" reported equipment damage at one of its facilities in the central region.
Meanwhile, DTEK stated that the enemy attacked three of its thermal power plants during the night, causing significant equipment damage.
"This marks the fifth major attack on our energy facilities by the enemy in the past month and a half. The last attacks on DTEK thermal power plants occurred on March 22 and 29, April 11, and 27," DTEK noted.
Since the full-scale invasion began, the Russian Federation has targeted DTEK thermal power plants approximately 180 times.
Russia launched UAVs and missiles at Ukrainian territory
As a result of a missile attack on Ukraine on the night of May 8, there were strikes in Poltava, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad and Zaporizhzhia regions. A child and two adults were injured.
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, all air targets in the capital's area were destroyed by air defense forces and means.
"According to preliminary data, there were no casualties or destruction in the capital," it said.
Brovary Mayor Ihor Sapozhko, citing data from the State Emergency Service, said that a civilian infrastructure facility in one of the settlements of Brovary district caught fire. He later added that two people were injured - a woman born in 1962 and a man born in 1990.
"They were hospitalized in a stressful condition and with injuries to their limbs in Brovary hospital," Sapozhko wrote.
Local authorities in Kirovohrad region reported an injured child of 8 years old. There, 13 private houses and almost three dozen garages were damaged.
