Bundestag defense committee calls for more Leopard tanks for Ukraine
Marcus Faber, chairman of the German parliament's defense committee, has called for more Leopard 2 tanks to be provided to Ukraine, as well as for the transfer of Fuchs armored vehicles
He wrote about this on the social network X.
‘So far, we have handed over 5% of our Leopard 2s and 0% of our Fuchs. We can do more - especially as we have ordered 123 Leopard 2s and are about to make a decision on Fuchs. Our help is crucial in the fight against Putin's war of aggression,’ the politician said.
Faber added that Ukraine's success in the Kursk region ‘should be a reason to talk about supplying more Leopard 2s and Fuchs.
‘By providing military support to Ukraine, we can now lay the foundations for a lasting peace in Europe,’ the German politician said.
As a reminder, on August 8, Faber said that the weapons that Kyiv receives from its partners become Ukrainian, including German Leopard 2 tanks. Therefore, Ukraine can use them at its own discretion, even in the Kursk region.
Ukraine’s cross-border incursion in Russia’s Kursk region
The Ukrainian military formed a ‘sanitary (buffer) zone’ in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation for self-defense.
On August 14, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said that residents of the Kursk region would be able to evacuate to Ukraine.
On August 15, Ukraine said it had established the first military commandant's office in the Kursk region. It was headed by Major General Moskaliov. At the same time, the authorities assure that there will be no occupation administrations in the Kursk region, as Ukraine does not intend to annex these territories.
