Former Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine names best way to counter Russian missiles
The Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine (2019-2020) Viktor Chumak believes that the best way to combat Russian missile weapons is to destroy Russian missile launchers
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"We understand that Russian missiles can be well shot down by air defense systems when they are available. It is good that we have SAMP/T, Patriot, which can intercept ballistic missiles. But they are not enough to protect the whole country. The situation is such that the best way to deal with enemy missile weapons is to destroy missiles in the places where Russian launchers are located. That is, to destroy these launchers," Chumak explained.
According to the former Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine, there is no doubt that Ukraine needs not only ATACMS with a range of 300 km, but also missiles with a range of 700 km.
"These can be Taurus cruise missiles, which can be a countermeasure to Russian launchers. But these systems still need to be found, their locations established, and then strikes carried out. That is, we need counter-weapons, and not just air defense," Chumak emphasized.
- On November 21 last year, the United States warned that Russia had agreed with Iran to supply short-range ballistic missiles for use in the war against Ukraine.
- On February 21, Reuters reported that Iran had provided Russia with about 400 ballistic missiles. They can destroy targets at a distance of 300 to 700 km.
