For effective counteroffensive, there must be excess of resources — colonel Grant
Retired British Army Colonel and renowned military expert Glen Grant, in an interview with Espreso, said that Ukraine needs to mobilize people now to have enough military for a counteroffensive in 2025
He said this on Espreso TV.
"I don't see that someone is going to use nuclear weapons because F-16s turned up. Russia didn't use nuclear when tanks turned up and hasn't used nuclear when ATACMS or HIMARS turned up or anything else. So, I don't see that there's going to be any change with that. Also, I don't see that the F-16 is going to be a battle winner. It will make a difference, but I'm not sure that it's going to make as much difference as people expect.
But I think the thing that, you know, we've got to be very careful about is talking about a counterattack. Because to do a counterattack means that you have to have an excess of resources. That means you've got to have more resources effectively than the enemy, and you've got to have trained people. And we still have not reached this point where we're actually training people properly to do something like a counterattack," the colonel said.
In his opinion, in order to have enough people for a counteroffensive in 2025, Ukraine needs to mobilize and recruit them now.
"If there's going to be a counterattack, it needs to be a very, very different state of affairs than we have at the moment. 2025 is a long way away. We've got to get through 2024 first, but I don't see nuclear. Therefore, I don't see that there's a plan for dealing with nuclear. There are clearly plans for dealing with Russia if Russia attacks a NATO country. Those plans are going on, and right at the moment, for example, there is heavy training in the Baltic states and heavy training in Finland about what to do if Russia keeps going," Glenn Grant commented.
