'Not earlier than January 20, 2025': politician predicts when Ukraine-Russia talks might start
Russian opposition politician Mark Feygin believes that the Ukraine-Russia negotiation process can only begin after the inauguration of the newly elected US president on January 20, 2025
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"Any shuttle missions by Orbán and others are merely actions that support Trump's position, designed to draw him into some peace process, like the Istanbul format. Trump doesn't need this, as he has repeatedly stated he will negotiate with Putin personally. Why not? We have heard Trump's plan parameters, where he doesn't reject aiding Ukraine but conditions it on Ukraine's willingness to engage in peace talks. In other words, we will help militarily, but Ukraine must agree to peace negotiations. This is either a parallel or alternative process, but quite definite," Feygin explained.
According to the politician, negotiations with Russia can begin no earlier than January 20, 2025.
"I don't think it can happen before January 20, 2025, as Trump will be inaugurated only on that date if he wins the election. After that, closer to spring, he might hold meetings with Putin and make some decisions. Whether they can agree or not is crucial. The arguments about the Ukrainian government not being recognized after May 20, when President Zelensky is considered illegitimate, are just Moscow's disinformation efforts to undermine Ukrainian authority, but they are not real arguments. Of course, they will talk to the Kyiv government and negotiate if such talks begin," he added.
- On July 20, British former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who continues to help Ukraine internationally, wrote an article about a compromise, but, in his opinion, a viable scenario for ending the war in Ukraine after a personal meeting with US presidential candidate Donald Trump.
