Defense Express CEO and military expert Serhiy Zgurets notes there is already a political decision on the part of the Bundestag to transfer long-range weapons to Ukraine, awaiting Chancellor's signature

He said this on the Espreso TV channel.

"There is already a political decision on the part of the Bundestag to transfer long-range weapons to Ukraine. Now the Chancellor has to sign it, and it's about Taurus missiles. That is, the political scales have already merged in favor of this decision, and now everything will depend on Scholz. We understand that this political component looks quite positive, but there is also a technical component related to the expectation and use of Taurus missiles," explained Zgurets.

According to the military expert, Taurus have a range of 300 to 500 kilometers, are the most accurate missiles and have an improved guidance system.

"These are really cool missiles. The Germans have about 500 of these missiles. They claimed that 250 are in a non-combatant state, and 250 can be recycled and restored. This is the maximum number of missiles we can get from Germany, although there may be fewer. German politicians and partly the military have stated that the issue of programming these missiles needs to be resolved, but this is strange. Because the point is that they should not fly further than 300 kilometers, and there was a question of whether it was possible to strike Russia. I hope that this issue has already been resolved against the backdrop of the NATO Secretary General's statements," Zgurets emphasized.

  • Earlier, media reported that the parties of the German government coalition have prepared an arms proposal for Ukraine, which, among other things, provides for the supply of long-range systems. However, the Taurus cruise missiles are not explicitly mentioned in the initiative.
  • At the Munich Security Conference, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the "right moment" is needed to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles.
  • On February 22, members of the German parliament voted in favor of a recommendation to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons. Presumably, this refers to Taurus missiles.
