Commander Nayev reveals Russian special forces activities on Northern border
Specially trained sabotage and reconnaissance units are actively operating along the borders of the Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv regions, persistently attempting to breach the border
Lieutenant General Serhii Nayev, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, shared it in an interview during a telethon.
He disclosed that these sabotage and intelligence groups typically consist of 10-12 individuals.
"All these groups are part of Russian special operations and operate under the guidance of the Russian Federation's General Staff. These officers are well-trained, focusing on the small border zone, spanning several kilometers along the state border within a 1000 km stretch," explained Nayev.
He emphasized that these groups are consistently attempting terrorist actions against both civilians and the military. It's crucial for citizens in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions, and the Bohodukhiv district of the Kharkiv region to recognize that the state border in these areas is a frontline where combat encounters can occur.
Border situation update
The commander reported that the state border in the OC North region spans over 1800 km, with 850 km bordering Belarus and over 1000 km forming a combat line with the Russian Federation.
"Russian forces withdrew from our northern region, but they continue engaging in combat, both along the border and attempting air attacks on Ukraine from those directions," he stated.
Nayev highlighted ongoing Russian attacks using rocket launchers, artillery, and mortars on border areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy regions, and the Bohodukhiv district of the Kharkiv region. The enemy also employs helicopter strikes.
Concerning Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups, efforts are constant along the 1000 km to counter and neutralize infiltrators.
"Our defenders are executing a stabilization operation. To safeguard the border, increased troop presence is necessary. A similar situation exists in the Russian Federation. The enemy persistently seeks to challenge our line of contact, prompting corresponding actions from our units," the general concluded.
