According to the Centre for Countering Disinformation of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, two manipulations appeared in the world on May 23.

Manipulation: American journalist Tucker Carlson said: "I can't understand why you are sending Kamala Harris to the Munich Security Conference and telling Zelenskyy at a press briefing in front of the cameras: 'We want you to join NATO'. If you say that, it means you want a war, you want the Russians to invade."

Refutation: With such statements, the journalist reinforces the Kremlin's narrative that Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic orientation provoked Russian aggression. With this narrative, Russia is trying to justify its invasion of Ukraine, which was in fact driven by Russian aggressive ambitions.

Manipulation: American journalist Michael Tracey wrote on his X page: "The hubris in Congress toward nuclear escalation is jaw-dropping. Bipartisan coalition demands Biden authorize Ukraine to strike inside Russia with US intel/weapons. Think of how psychotic this would've sounded two years ago. ."

Counterclaim: Ukraine, being in a state of war, has every right to neutralize military facilities on the territory of the aggressor country in self-defense. In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine aim to neutralize the Russian army and means of warfare, i.e. to eliminate the headquarters, ammunition depots and personnel of the Russian Armed Forces.

  • Earlier, the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe said that the United States should allow Ukraine to strike military targets in Russia's border regions.
  • Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said that the weapons provided by the US to Ukraine should be used within Ukrainian territory.
  • According to the WSJ, Ukraine has asked US President Joe Biden's administration to lift restrictions on the use of US weapons on military targets in Russia.
  • At the same time, The New York Times writes that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is calling on President Joe Biden to lift restrictions on the use of US weapons for Ukraine.
