Before blaming Western partners, we should ask where are all Ukraine's weapons - military expert Koziy

Ihor Koziy, military expert at the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, believes that Ukraine could effectively confront Russia and not depend on Western partners if it retained its full military potential after declaring independence

He expressed this opinion on Esperso TV.

“We can talk a lot about the lack of ammunition and weapons for the Defense Forces, blaming our Western partners. However, why are we talking today only about the fact that we are not given certain types of weapons? As of 1991, we had more than 6,000 tanks. They were good tanks. We approached the Russian-Ukrainian war with only 280 tanks.

Why do we not want to ask the 5 Supreme Commanders-in-Chief, one of whom has already died, where all our weapons have gone since independence? Why is the Verkhovna Rada silent today? We elected this parliament. Our social responsibility in this matter is no less important than the dominant heights captured by the enemy, as experts and the media say. We need to pay attention to this. We should pay attention to the fact that the Committee on Security and Defense, instead of introducing democratic civilian control, forgetting that Ukraine is a parliamentary-presidential republic, is simply silent,” Koziy said.

According to the expert, more attention should be paid to the issue of production and control over domestic weapons.

“We can sit around and discuss the dominant heights that the enemy was able to capture on the frontline, but it is the dominant heights that will radically change the situation in this war. What difference will the dominant heights we are discussing make? They did not change the situation a month, three months, or six months ago. And this is also the responsibility of the fourth branch of government, the media. Because not only should we talk about the enemy's seizure of the dominant heights, but also about where our weapons are, which we had or should have,” he emphasized.
