274 Kharkiv region's locals suspected of collaboration with Russia in 2024
Volodymyr Tymoshko, head of the Main Department of the National Police in Kharkiv region, noted two categories of people who are suspected of collaborating in the Kharkiv region
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
‘Since January 1 this year, we have suspected 274 people of committing collaborative activities. Think about this figure, we still have so many days left in this year, only 7 months of the year have passed. In fact, we suspect 1-2 people a day. Who are these people? These are people who assisted the Russian army during the occupation. We are currently working on the liberated territories, which include the Kupyansk direction, Balakliya, Izyum. That is, all these territories that were occupied in the Kharkiv region. It also includes Vovchansk and Lyptsi, and I would like to remind you that the enemy was on the ring road. We are, as they say, ‘catching up’ with these people, because it is a matter of justice,’ said Volodymyr Tymoshko.
According to him, people in Izyum do not want to live next to those who helped the Russian invaders during the occupation.
‘If we don't answer these questions, people will have a reason to make up their own minds. By the way, I often say that if we don't want to see Lynch courts (lynchings - ed.), then we, as law enforcement officers, must ensure justice. If we don't want to see traitors hanging from apple trees, we have to deal with them within the law, because we are a state governed by the rule of law. This was the first category. And the second is those who continue to do so. For example, recently there has been a trend of car arsons,’ said the head of the Main Department of the National Police in Kharkiv region.
Tymoshko said that to date, all car arsons committed in the Kharkiv region have been solved, and more than 9 people have been detained.
‘Those in this category, I would like to mention for the sake of characterisation, are not people with pro-Russian views, they are not those who hate Ukraine, but the so-called ‘waiting people’. I often say that if Somali pirates came, they would help them too. These people are not from the criminal environment, because there are no ‘professional’ criminals left in Kharkiv today, some of them have left, and many who used to be registered with the police are now fighting in the Ukrainian army. Russians mostly buy for money those people who are from the ‘social bottom’ or, unfortunately, minors. That is why we appeal to parents, because children often fall under such influence,’ the Kharkiv police chief summed up.
