Pentagon explains why Ukraine still hasn't receive long-range missiles for HIMARS
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin says that Ukraine has not received ATACMS long-range missiles, because at this stage of the war, Ukraine's Armed Forces successfully perform their tasks using short-range weapons.
Austin said this in an interview with CNN.
According to him, the US supplies Ukraine with weapons that are very effective on the battlefield, and "it's not just about the equipment you have."
"It's about how you use that equipment and how you synchronize all the things that are there so that there are effects on the battlefield that can then create opportunities," Austin said.
He emphasized that the GMLRS high-precision munitions for the HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems available in Ukraine provide the necessary firepower and a range of up to 80 km for Ukraine's current needs, and are capable of hitting the vast majority of Russian targets.
Austin emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have properly used HIMARS technology to launch attacks on logistics, command, and control, which takes away a significant capability from the Russian forces.
