After Iryna Venediktova was removed from the position of Ukrainian Prosecutor General, her deputy Oleksiy Symonenko will temporarily replace her in the role

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's decree No. 501/2022 shared the news.

The document is entitled 'On the assignment of duties of the Prosecutor General'.

"In accordance with the second part of Article 11 of the Law of Ukraine 'On the Legal Regime of Martial Law', I decree: entrust Oleksiy Symonenko with the duties of the Prosecutor General," the presidential decree says.

As noted on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office, Oleksiy Symonenko was born on September 18, 1976 in the city of Chuguiv, Kharkiv region.

In 1998, he graduated from the National Law Academy of Yaroslav the Wise, majoring in Jurisprudence, qualification - lawyer.

From May 1998 to March 2006, he worked in the prosecutor's office of the city of Kyiv as an intern at the position of assistant prosecutor, assistant prosecutor, investigator of the prosecutor's office of the Vatutinsky district of Kyiv; investigative prosecutor's office of Desnyanskyi and Obolonskyi districts of Kyiv; senior assistant prosecutor, senior investigator of the prosecutor's office of the Obolon district of Kyiv.

In March 2006 - May 2010 - in the bodies of the prosecutor's office of the Kyiv region in the positions of an investigator in particularly important cases of the investigative department of the investigative department of the prosecutor's office of the Kyiv region; the senior assistant prosecutor of the Kyiv region on matters of legal support; head of the investigative department of the investigative department; deputy head, head of the department for supervision of investigation of criminal cases by investigators of the prosecutor's office of the investigative department of the prosecutor's office of the Kyiv region.

From May 2010 to June 2018, he served in the bodies of the Ukrainian Security Service as an officer.

He has the honorary title of Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, received, according to Bihus.info, while working in the Security Service, specifically in 2011, from the then head of state Viktor Yanukovych.

March 27, 2020 - Venediktova appointed him as deputy prosecutor general.

According to Ukrainian Pravda, it was Symonenko who transferred the Tatarov case from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine to the Security Service and contributed to the removal of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office from it.

In December 2021, he signed a letter of suspicion against the fifth president, Petro Poroshenko
