Nuclear weapons can be carried by all ships in Russia's Black Sea Fleet from missile boat class and above - Andrii Ryzhenko
Expert with the Defense Strategies Center, Captain of the 1st rank with the Ukrainian Armed Forces' reserve Andrii Ryzhenko says that any missile on a Russian ship can be equipped with a nuclear warhead.
He shared the details with Espreso TV.
"Nuclear weapons can be carried by practically all ships of the Black Sea Fleet from the missile boat class and above, that is, any missile on board a Russian ship can be equipped with a nuclear warhead. You can also add to this 533 mm caliber torpedoes, which can be in the nuclear version. Of course, project 636.3 submarines can carry Kalibr missiles and torpedoes," the expert of the Defense Strategies Center said.
Andrii Ryzhenko commented that the order is given by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces, Putin, and nothing will be done without his instructions. Ryzhenko also believes that there are several designated persons in the chain of decision-making, among whom there is definitely the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of the General Staff, as well as the district commander and the fleet commander.
"When the commander receives a certain document with confirmation to carry out a mission, then pre-launch preparation, input of instructions, and a strike mission are carried out. I think that for now they will refrain from having nuclear weapons on board, and an example of this is a Moscow cruiser. But during the times of the Soviet Union, nuclear weapons were always on this cruiser. Although there is speculation about the use of nuclear weapons, they clearly understand the political, economic, and all other consequences. So, the procedure is complicated, but technically possible and therefore very dangerous," he concluded.
