"No nation in the world has demonstrated the value of freedom as passionately as Ukraine": Ukrainian people are awarded German M100 Media Award
The M100 Media Award ceremony will take place on September 15 in Potsdam (Germany). Boxer Volodymyr Klitschko will receive it on behalf of the Ukrainian people.
This is reported by the organizers of the M100 Media Award.
"The people of Ukraine with stoic strength for months resisted the brutal invasion of Russia and defended their freedom and sovereignty on European soil. Therefore, the M100 advisory board decided to honor the people of Ukraine with this year's M100 Media Award," the message reads.
The organizers of the award note that the M100 Media Award ceremony will take place on September 15 in Potsdam (Germany, editor's note). Boxer Volodymyr Klitschko will receive it on behalf of the Ukrainian people.
"No nation in the world has demonstrated the value of freedom and its fragile vulnerability as passionately as Ukraine in recent months. The country is fighting heroically for its values: independence and freedom. And it defends them day after day, hour after hour under deadly fire. That, what we take for granted, Ukrainians have spent months trying to preserve at the risk of their lives. These are people who have become a united nation in the most difficult times of their existence and are striving for democracy in the most difficult times. Their suffering is non-negotiable. This is a war against democracy, freedom and our value system. The people of Ukraine deserve our deep respect, esteem, support and solidarity. They fight for us too," writes M100 Media Award.
The M100 Media Award has been presented at the international media conference since 2005 for its contribution to the protection of media freedom and freedom of speech, as well as to the strengthening of democratic principles and mutual understanding in Europe. Last year, it was awarded to the Russian opposition leader Oleksiy Navalny. In 2014, Ukrainian investigative journalists Natalka Sedletska and Kateryna Kaplyuk, as well as Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko, received the award.
"This year's M100 Sanssouci colloquium focuses on Russia's military attack on Ukraine, its implications for Europe and the role of the media. Russia's invasion of its independent neighboring state is the largest armed conflict on the European continent since the end of World War II, with enormous implications for geopolitics, economics, democracy, society and the environment. Around 70 participants from all over Europe will discuss how Europe and the Western world want to protect and strengthen democracy, freedom and freedom of the press and opinion," the organizers of the award write.
