Nine thermal power plant units damaged in Ukraine after Russian missile attack on January 14
In Ukraine, as a result of a massive Russian missile attack on January 14, 1 unit of a thermal power plant in the eastern and 8 units of a thermal power plant in the western parts of the country have been damaged
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal shared the information at a government meeting on January 17.
"The latest massive Russian missile attack had destructive consequences for the Ukrainian energy sector. Generation facilities were damaged: 1 unit of thermal power plant in the eastern and 8 units of thermal power plants in the western part of our country," the prime minister said.
"Three main substations and one overhead line were damaged," Shmyhal added and stressed that it led to increased deficit in the power system.
Because of the damage, emergency blackouts were introduced in a number of regions of Ukraine, Shmyhal stressed.
On January 14, the Russian army launched another massive missile attack on Ukraine, the head of the Ministry of Energy Herman Halushchenko reported strikes at energy facilities in 6 regions of Ukraine.
