On the night of August 21, the Ukrainian military struck a position of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system near the village of Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov region, Russia.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Units of the Ukrainian Navy in cooperation with other units of the Defence Forces took part in the attack. The military struck at the position of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system in Rostov region.

"According to the results of objective control, explosions were observed at the designated targeting points. The accuracy of the strike is being investigated," the statement said.

In the early hours of August 21, Moscow faced what is reported as one of the most significant drone attacks on the region. Russia claims to have intercepted 10 drones in the assault.

Russian state agency TASS confirmed the incident.

At 3 a.m., Moscow’s Mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, was the first to announce that Russian air defenses in the Podolsky district allegedly thwarted a drone headed toward the city.

Ukraine receives over $5 billion in aid from Canada since Russia's invasion

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Canada has provided over $5 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine.

Ukraine's Ministry of Economy press service reports.

On August 21, Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko met with Canadian International Development Minister Ahmed Hussen.

Marchenko expressed gratitude to the Canadian government for its support since the beginning of the full-scale war. According to him, Canada is the third largest G7 member country in terms of funding.

“Canada continues to maintain its clear position on financial, military, humanitarian aid, sanctions against the aggressor country, as well as in the G7 political decision to use the immobilized sovereign assets of the Russian Federation in favor of Ukraine,” the Ukrainian minister said.

Thus, in 2022, Ukraine received about $1.9 billion from Canada, in 2023 - more than $1.75 billion in concessional funds, and this year the state budget received more than $1.47 billion.
