US imposes sanctions against Russian hackers
The US has imposed sanctions on two leaders of the Russian cybercrime group Cyber Army of Russia Reborn, responsible for attacks against critical infrastructure facilities around the world
This is reported by the US Treasury Department.
It is stated that the group's leader, Yulia Pankratova, and chief hacker, Denis Degtyarenko, were sanctioned.
"CARR and its members’ efforts to target our critical infrastructure represent an unacceptable threat to our citizens and our communities, with potentially dangerous consequences,” said Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson. “The United States has and will continue to take action, using our full range of tools, to hold accountable these and other individuals for their malicious cyber activities," said Brian Nelson, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
The agency said that since 2022, CARR has been conducting low-efficiency and simple DDoS attacks against Ukraine, as well as governments and companies located in countries that have supported Ukraine. At the same time, at the end of 2023, CARR began to report attacks on the industrial control systems of numerous critical infrastructure facilities in the United States and Europe. These included manipulations with the equipment of industrial control systems at water supply, hydropower, wastewater and energy facilities.
- Earlier, Russian hackers attempted to carry out a coordinated cyberattack on Polish critical infrastructure. The relevant Polish services prevented it.
