Ukrainian Foreign Ministry urges Hasidic pilgrims to refrain from travelling to Uman for Rosh Hashanah
Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Hasidic pilgrims to refrain from coming to Uman, Cherkasy region, to celebrate the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah
The Embassy of Ukraine in Israel reported the information.
"Russia's ongoing full-scale military aggression against Ukraine poses real threats to people's lives and safety, makes it impossible to guarantee the safety of foreign citizens on the territory of Ukraine," the statement said.
For this reason, the Ministry asks to avoid travelling to Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.
In case pilgrims decide to visit the city despite these warnings, the Ministry urges them to consider that Ukraine is under martial law, which imposes several additional regulations.
Circumstances that may complicate the stay of pilgrims in Ukraine and should be considered when planning trips include:
- Insufficient civil protection facilities to shelter pilgrims in places of mass gatherings,
- Congestion of land transport routes to Ukraine and potential significant delays in railway traffic due to mass shelling of transport infrastructure,
- A shortage of medical personnel and facilities to provide adequate medical care to pilgrims,
- The possibility of introducing additional entry regulations, such as online registration, and controls on the stay of Hasidic pilgrims in Ukraine.
Last year, more than 32,332 Hasidic pilgrims arrived in Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.
