This is reported on the website of the State Film Agency of Ukraine.

The Sarajevo Film Festival, the largest film festival in the Balkans and one of the largest in Europe, is taking place in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina from August 16 to 23. This year, 54 films will compete for the festival's highest award, the Heart of Sarajevo Award, in four competition sections: feature films, documentaries, short films and student films.

The main competition programme for feature films (Competition Programme - Feature Film 2024) includes THE EDITORIAL OFFICE (REDAKTSIYA) directed by Roman Bondarchuk. This is the director's second feature film after Volcano, for which Bondarchuk won the Shevchenko Prize in 2019.

The film tells the story of Yura, a junior employee of a local history museum who accidentally witnesses a forest fire. He ends up with evidence that could change the course of events.

The drama with elements of comedy The Editorial Office was filmed in 2021 in the Kherson region. The film was created in co-production with Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency.

The screenings of the film The Editorial Office are scheduled for 21 and 22 August.

The following Ukrainian films will be presented as part of the festival's other programmes.

Documentary films (Competition Programme - Documentary Film 2024):

'Dad's Lullaby' ( TATOVA KOLYSKOVA);
'A Picture to Remember' (FOTO NA PAM'YAT);
'Fragments of ice' ( FRAHMENTY LIODU).

Short films (Competition Programme - Short Film 2024):

'Alive' / ZHYVA.

Student films (Competition Programme - Student Film 2024):

 'Happy end day' / OSTANNII DEN.

This year, the Sarajevo Film Festival will present 17 world, 9 international, 3 European, 23 regional and 2 national premieres. In addition, three films will be screened out of competition.

Founded in 1995 during the siege of Sarajevo, the festival has become a powerful platform for filmmakers from all over the world. The competition programme is open to films from 20 countries.

  • The film had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February this year. The Berlinale's website describes the film as ‘a surreal, self-deprecating satire on media and politics’.
  • In April, The Editorial Office was screened in two Czech cities - Prague and Hradec Králové.
  • In July, the film was presented at the New Horizons International Film Festival in Wroclaw.
