Stanislav Zhelikhovsky, PhD in Political Science, international expert, believes that Russia will try to cover up its direct interference in the US election process with the shooting incident near US presidential candidate Donald Trump

He shared this opinion with Espreso TV.

‘We see that there are definitely too many coincidences around such an odious person, such a figure in all these events, as Donald Trump. And this is not surprising, given that such personalities are often accompanied by all sorts of scandals, all sorts of non-unique events. And of course, as a second attempt on Trump's life, this is one of those episodes that can serve as a certain kind of support for a presidential candidate's election campaign. Obviously now we see that this case is being promoted a lot, and even Moscow is reacting to this alleged event, whether it has any real basis or is an imitation, it is difficult to say,’ he said.

The expert believes that this shooting will become a ‘finest hour’ for Russian propaganda and the search for a ‘Ukrainian trace’.

‘But we can definitely say that the attempted assassination of Trump is a kind of finest hour for Russian propaganda, which tends to link all this to the Ukrainian trail. And, in fact, as it always does, when it connects Ukraine, all the troubles that befall Russia or any other state, from terrorist attacks to natural disasters. And now, in my opinion, this is an attempt to cover up direct interference in the US election process and to influence the results of the US presidential election. Let me remind you that not long ago, the Biden administration accused Russia of interfering in the US election process. Of course, it is important for Russia to impose the idea that Ukraine is involved in such a possible attempt on presidential candidate Trump,’ he said.

Stanislav Zhelikhovsky does not rule out that it could have been an attempted assassination.

‘Again, I think that in the near future we will learn more information about what happened there and what it is connected with. But I think it could definitely be an attempt to take candidates out of the game, or someone in particular. And this may be a consequence of the fact that the situation in the United States is uncertain, and it is important for certain external players, especially for Russia, that the paradigm that is currently in place in America is changed. And obviously now, a version of such a destructive can play in favor of the Russian Federation, and in particular, it can act as a kind of lightning rod from the Kremlin,’ he added.

  • On September 15, a shooting took place near the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump. The former president is safe. White House Chief of Staff Joe Biden said he had instructed the US Secret Service to provide the resources necessary to protect the former president.
