Ukraine shows no desire to integrate with NATO in relevant way - MP Klympush-Tsintsadze
MP Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze says that in the first 10 months of 2024, the government hasn't developed a single bill that would bring Ukraine closer to NATO membership
She said this on Espreso TV.
"Today we do not see Ukraine actively demonstrating its desire to integrate with NATO in a meaningful way. Last year, the NATO Membership Plan was canceled. Instead, an annual adapted program of Ukraine's progress towards NATO membership was adopted. So, over this year, 10 months to be exact, I have not seen a single bill submitted by the government to implement this adapted program. We keep knocking on the doors of the Alliance, but apart from our insistence to our partners and what our military is doing on the battlefield, I do not see any steps that would bring us closer to NATO membership," Klympush-Tsintsadze explained.
According to the MP, Ukraine must consistently do its homework on joining NATO.
"Unfortunately, today I do not see any steps that would meaningfully advance Ukraine's membership in NATO. We can't even appeal to the skeptics who are now speaking out against Ukraine's membership in NATO. We also have to do our own homework, which would accelerate Ukraine's accession to NATO," she added.
On October 16, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that he had been familiarized with the content of Ukraine's Victory Plan and was currently discussing it with allies in the North Atlantic Alliance.
Following his meetings with NATO defense ministers, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that there were no opponents of Ukraine's accession to the Alliance.
