Missiles for air defense, HIMARS and high-precision systems: US to announce new aid for Ukraine
On Wednesday, 31 May, the US will announce an additional $300 million in new military assistance to Ukraine, including air defense missiles (including Patriot), HIMARS and precision-guided systems
This was reported by the Voice of America, citing sources.
Allegedly, the military aid package, in addition to missiles for the Patriot air defense system, will include missiles for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), tank ammunition and anti-tank weapons.
Among the specific types of ammunition to be included in the aid package are Zuni unguided air-to-air missiles and AIM-7 air-to-air missiles with radar guidance. The Voice of America also mentions Avenger air defense systems and Stinger man-portable air defense systems.
The aid package will mark the 39th authorized presidential drawdown of military equipment from Defense Department inventories since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the United States has already provided more than $36.9 billion in military aid to Ukraine, according to the Pentagon. This has raised concerns that funds to support Kyiv may soon run out.
