Almost a third of population evacuated from Hlukhiv, Sumy region
On September 22, the head of the Hlukhiv community, Nadiia Vailo, said that about 10,000 people had been evacuated from Hlukhiv in the Sumy region. That amounts to almost a third of the city's population
The Sumy Regional Military Administration reports.
The mandatory evacuation was announced by the order of the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artiukh, amid intensified shelling of the city, which is located in the border area.
"I think this evacuation is really timely today. Because our city is located in the border area and we all feel that the number of shelling has increased. We don't know how the situation will develop in the future, so we are taking evacuation measures today to protect people, especially children," said Vailo.
In particular, according to her, the evacuation of children was carried out on a priority basis, and currently 70% of the total number of children from Hlukhiv are already safe.
The head of the community urged residents to leave Hlukhiv and move to safer places, emphasizing that the lives and health of people, especially children, are a priority.
"Today, everyone must understand that the most important thing is not material values, nor any other things when it comes to life, especially the lives of children. That is why we are working now and will continue to work to ensure that the tasks facing local governments are fulfilled," she added.
