Latvian President backs idea to strip citizenship from people who support Russia's war against Ukraine
Latvian President Egils Levits has publicly supported the idea of stripping citizenship from people who support Russia's war on Ukraine.
Delfi shared the news.
According to him, the corresponding draft law has already been previously supported by the Seimas and will apply to citizens of Latvia who have dual citizenship.
"You can take away their citizenship. Now such a project is in the Diet. We need to look at those in particular who express such views, which are outside this democratic spectrum," Levits said.
In his opinion, all Russians living in Latvia should take a clear position.
"If he is neutral, then he has not understood the essence of the matter. A part of Latvian Russians takes a clearly Ukrainian position. There are those who have not understood what is happening, but are gradually moving in the right direction. And a smaller part supports the Russian position - they are outside the spectrum of democracy, based on notions of justice. To support obvious injustice means you are not a democrat. There aren't many of them," Levits said.
