Latvia compares Russia to ISIS in call for EU to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism
Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs calls on the EU to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, as its actions in many ways resemble the Islamic State
Rinkēvičs made a corresponding statement in an interview with Politico.
"We see all the brutality of the Russian forces, which actually in many ways resemble ISIS, which we have always called a terrorist organization. Let's call things by their names", he explained.
Rinkēvičs added that Europe should redouble its efforts to isolate Russia - confiscate Russian state assets, limit the issuance of visas for Russians, as well as increase support and military aid to Ukraine.
"We condemn countries like Iran, and Russia is no different", he concluded.
The statement of the head of the Latvian
Foreign Ministry was made after the shelling of the colony in Olenivka, Donetsk region, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were held. Russian propagandists claimed that there were at least 53 dead.
