October sees Russia's heaviest losses in Ukraine - UK defense chief
Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the UK's chief of defense staff, revealed that Russian forces suffered record losses in Ukraine in October
In an interview with the BBC, he shared that Russia's daily casualties had reached approximately 1,500 personnel, both killed and wounded. This brings their total losses since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022 to a staggering 700,000.
According to Radakin, the figures for October represent Russia's heaviest losses of the entire war, confirmed by Western intelligence sources.
"Russia is about to suffer 700,000 people killed or wounded – the enormous pain and suffering that the Russian nation is having to bear because of Putin’s ambition," said Sir Tony.
"There is no doubt that Russia is making tactical, territorial gains, and that is putting pressure on Ukraine," he said, adding that Russia is spending more than 40% of its public expenditure on defense and security, which he described as "an enormous drain" on the country."
While allies of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump insist that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may have to cede territory to bring the war to an end, Sir Tony insisted that Western allies would be resolute for "as long as it takes".
- The occupying Russian army lost 1,340 servicemen over the day of the war. Ukrainian Defense forces destroyed 11 Russian tanks and 31 artillery systems.
