"It's expensive and inconvenient. But we in Europe pay with money, and Ukraine - with human lives": Latvian Prime Minister on Russia's gas blackmail

Kariņš also noted that now the Russian Federation is openly blackmailing Europe, hoping to get sanctions relief for the war against Ukraine.
"We have to withstand this pressure. Now we, throughout Europe and in Latvia, pay a kind of military fee. Ukraine pays it with human lives, destroyed infrastructure and damage to the environment. We, Latvia and Europe, pay with money. It is expensive and 'painful', but it must be done until Ukraine wins this war, and Russia loses," Krišjānis Kariņš emphasized.
In addition, he added that the Latvian government is preparing steps to help the population get through the heating season.
