Iranian Zolfaghar missiles are more difficult target for air defense interception - military expert Kovalenko
Oleksandr Kovalenko, military and political columnist of Information Resistance, noted that Zolfaghar is more dangerous than Iskander because it has a warhead separate from the booster unit
He told about this on Espreso TV.
"Any ballistic missile is a very difficult target to intercept. For example, the Fateh-110 missile (an Iranian surface-to-surface missile - ed.) is an upgrade of the Zelzal-1 and Zelzal-2 missiles (an Iranian-made unguided missile - ed.) and an actual copy of the Soviet S-75 and Luna-M (tactical missile systems with an unguided ballistic missile - ed.), so it should be considered as something between Soviet and Chinese technologies. Because the Iranians used the CSS-8 as a sample, which is the Chinese analogue of the S-75, to give an acceleration to its missile program," the military expert explained.
Oleksandr Kovalenko concluded that the Iranian Fateh-110 missile is something in between the missiles mentioned above.
"As for Zolfaghar, it is a very interesting ballistic missile, because it appeared in 2017, and immediately the manufacturers were able to increase the distance of destruction of the object from 300 km to 700 km, which is a fairly quick jump. I do not rule out that Russia also participated, providing some missile technology so that Iran could do it. But Zolfaghar is more dangerous than Iskander because it has a separate warhead from the booster block, accordingly, it is an even more difficult target for interception by air defense systems" Kovalenko noted.
