Iran asks Russia to help suppress protests - media
Iran has asked the Russian Federation to help quell the uprising by providing training and riot control equipment
This is reported by the opposition Iran International publication.
The Iranian regime is said to have asked Moscow to send advisers as it prepares for a prolonged confrontation with protesters and is concerned about limited resources in both manpower and equipment.
The publication refers to secret documents from which it appears that official Tehran is preparing for a prolonged confrontation with the protesters. At the same time, it is concerned about the limited resources in manpower and equipment.
Tehran relies on information from Moscow to assess the situation inside the country. The documents mention that Russia is listening to Western communications to give Tehran an assessment of the nature and strength of the protest movement.
This information confirms the assumption voiced by US officials in October of this year. At the time, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that Russia could help Iran, drawing on its own experience of suppressing demonstrations. In response, Iran supplies Russia with weapons for the war with Ukraine.
“The evidence that Iran is helping Russia rage its war against Ukraine is clear and it is public. Iran and Russia are growing closer the more isolated they become. Our message to Iran is very, very clear: Stop killing your people and stop sending weapons to Russia to kill Ukrainians,” she said.
The White House's National Security Council strategic communications coordinator, John Kirby, said the White House is confident of Russia's help in suppressing the protesters, adding that this is not an allegation, but a fact.
To date, Iran's Ministry of Internal Affairs has officially recognized the death of 200 citizens during the protests, but these data differ from the figures provided by human rights activists. According to their data, about 460 people were killed.
