Germany greenlights sale of 100 howitzers to Ukraine
The German government has agreed to sell 100 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery units to Ukraine at a total cost of EUR 1.7 billion
This is reported by Spiegel.
The Federal Government of Germany has approved the sale to Ukraine of 100 self-propelled artillery units Panzerhaubitze 2000 manufactured by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). The total value of the contract for these 100 modern self-propelled howitzers is EUR 1.7 billion, which is several times higher than the total cost of all weapons provided by Germany (EUR 600 million).
The publication notes that German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeсk gave his consent to the sale of self-propelled guns on April 13. But KMW confirmed this information only now. Ukraine made an offer to buy PzH 2000 back in April.
The KMW company said that production of the weapons systems should begin immediately. However, it is currently unknown when exactly the first howitzers within the contract will go to Ukraine. After all, the production of all howitzers is designed for several years.
